My "5 minute" encounter with LIFEHOUSE!

The band behind the hits You and Me, Hanging by a Moment, Broken, Everything, etc. Yes, you got it right! Lifehouse! Rick Woolstenhulme, Jr., Bryce Soderberg, Ben Carey and Jason Wade was here in the Philippines  last May 26, 2012 for a concert held at Araneta Coliseum.

Okay to make it clear, I didn't had the chance to watch their concert, for the sole reason that I need to go to work that night. After feeling like a loser and being so sad that I can't go to the concert, I can say that May 26 is not a bad day at all!

I was one of the lucky few who got the chance to have a glimpse of Lifehouse last May 26 at Ali Mall, Cubao for a quick Meet and Greet before their show! Now this is a quick look back on the best 5minutes I spent this May (Yes, i know "5 minutes" is not accurate but almost kinda near the target), just to see Mr. Jason Wade, the band's vocalist.

Swensen's Ice Cream: America's favorite since 1948!

SWENSEN'S ice cream is America's favorite since 1948. Now they approximately have over 400 stores worldwide! And even if I'm on the other side of the earth, nothing's gonna stop me and a few of my officemates in trying their ice cream because SWENSEN'S Eastwood (QC, Philippines) is now scooping!

Just by browsing their menu, you will fall in love with all the flavors they can offer! From scoops, toppings, sundaes, shakes and smoothies, etc.; you will surely have a hard time to pick! It seems like everything is absolutely yummy! :p

Norah Jones and her Little Broken Hearts

As a final product of her collaboration with Danger Mouse (aka Brian Burton), Norah Jones released her latest studio album named Little Broken Hearts (Bluenote/EMI) through Polyeast Records last May 1, 2012.

Norah Jones:
Known for her “Jazz-Pop” sound and her awesome and unique voice, there is no doubt of Norah Jones’ success and contributions to the music industry. Coming out way back 2002 with a blast on her first release of the Grammy Award winning Come Away With Me which sold 25 million copies worldwide; followed by Feels Like Home (2004), Not Too Late (2007), and The Fall (2009) –as well as two albums with her country collective The Little Willies. She even showed her versatility in a 2010 compilation of all her collaborations with diverse artists entitled …Featuring Norah Jones. To be honest, I am personally in love with her massive hit song Don’t Know Why from the very first time I heard it!

Music Spotlight: the happy EMMANUELLE

Emmanuelle was dubbed as the new OPM sweetheart. She just recently released a self-titled debut album under Universal Records.
Her carrier single "Happy" is a feel-good song which lyrically reminded me of Taylor Swift as I checked it out on Youtube. :)

Here's the audio clip:

Emmanuelle's album track list:

1. Happy
2. Dear Diary
3. Tonight
4. Manong Guard with Yeng Constantino
5. Sandali Lang
6. Sarap Mabuhay
7. God Gave Me You

More to her pretty face, she got real talents in singing, acting, dancing, and writing good music, she even plays guitars! No wonder she will reach places and touch hearts. I am excited on how Emmanuelle will contribute to our slowly-but-surely-improving OPM music scene along with new ground-breaking artists with the likes of Zia Quizon and Somedaydream.

MUSIC spotlight: SOMEDAYDREAM (The Album Review)

He literally skyrocketed to fame, he got his fresh musical style and A LOT of girls screaming for him every time he sings K-I-S-S-I-N-G! Yes, you've guessed it right. I'm talking about this "Electro-Pop" one-man band named Somedaydream! He is now on my music spotlight for a special feature about his latest record, self-titled "SOMEDAYDREAM" under MCA Music and Mecca Music.

Alright, I will start by giving quick bits about Somedaydream a.k.a. Rez Toledo...
He was awarded by Yahoo! Philippines as Breakthrough Artist and Icon of the Year, they are BIG titles indeed. His smashing hit "Hey Daydreamer" got the #1 spot of Pinoy MYX Countdown and MYX Hit Charts year-ender edition; and it was RX 93.1's "SONG OF THE YEAR" and he became the radio station's "OPM Artist of the Year". (Wow, I was really thrilled by just typing all of his achievements in fast track!) More to it, Hey Daydreamer is currently the new TV commercial jingle of Selecta's Cornetto Disc which made the LSS more viral to many. Everyone can't help but to sing along with Hey Daydreamer when it plays!

His musical backgrounds rooted to being a band member, during schooldays.. I was even surprised when he said he started as a bassist. Now, Somedaydream's music is leveled to some foreign artists like Owl City, etc. which, on my opinion, is a compliment. For more information about Somedaydream, you can grab a copy of Pinoy Magazine's Semi-collector's edition featuring Rez.

His supporters are hardcore, as I may say, so as a treat to all of the "Dreamers" out there...
here is a TRACK-BY-TRACK REVIEW of Somedaydream's album...

The album has 7 tracks, all originals (WOW...again!)
The PRELUDE (of Hey Daydreamer) is a good jump start! A track that reminded me of tunes of some classic Nintendo video games before..haha! A fun track indeed, this intro track is perfect to excite you to the carrier single HEY DAYDREAMER, the 2nd track. So, what can I say about Hey Daydreamer? It is viral, I'm just stating a fact. It is fresh and unique to the ears of the youth nowadays. The "Electro-Pop" genre is evident to the song. The lyrics is carefree and easy to sing along with. So come on! Sing it with me.. "You and me.. sitting on a tree.. K-I-S-S-I-N-G!".

Here is Hey Daydreamer's official video:

Okay, enough of me singing, moving on.. DO-DO WITH YOU is up next. I find this 3rd track wholesomely sexy, with lyrics like: "I know it's crazy but your lips just hypnotized me baby, its only been a week since I left you and already I'm dreaming about do-do-do with you". :) The melody kept it wholesome and upbeat. Next song is DELIVERY BOYS that surprisingly has "tag-lish" lyrics. This song expresses positivity and nationalism. It is effective in giving its sensible message through music. Kudos to Somedaydream for this song! BREAK, on the other hand, is a sad break-up song. For me, this song is straight-forwardly written. The song is honest, so honest that you can easily relate to it and feel the hurt. The 6th track SING THIS SONG is my personal favorite! The song captured me. I love it! I am amazed that it is a slow, solemn song, but the Electro feeling is still there. I sincerely closed my eyes the first time I heard this song, and I instantly felt how enticing it is. HEY DAYDREAMER (ACOUSTIC) is the finale song. This is a good track. For lack of better term, it is 'RAW' in a great way. I know that Rez is in the "Electro-Pop" genre, but it is still satisfying for the ear to hear him without the auto-tunes, in my opinion...haha. It's cute how I incorporated this acoustic track to a "Jason Mraz" type. :)

Karylle and Christian Bautista in "Love and Laughter"

With the success of The Kitchen Musical & Westside Story, it is evident that Karylle and Christian Bautista's team-up is a success both in acting and singing! It is not surprising that they both gained followers widely, not just here in the Philippines but even across Asia. Their chemistry is visible adding to the fact that they seemed to enjoy working together. Their music is a perfect combination, no doubt that both of them are great performers by their own rights. And now, get ready as they are "cooking up" a great treat for all of us this love month!

Christian Bautista - Beautiful To Me

Movie review: #MyCactusHeart

Perfect for the pre-valentine jitters, Star Cinema offered #MyCactusHeart for the local movie goers last January 25,2012. Top-billed by Maja Salvador and Matteo Guidicelli who happened to be real-life lovers. The film was directed by Enrico Santos.

See full trailer:

SUMMARY:
Sandy (Maja Salvador) is a simple girl who believed in fairytales and soulmates. Unfortunately, she eventually grew up with a broken family; thus leading her to think that true love doesn't really exist.

Sandy, being afraid to be hurt, turned out to be the heartbreaker. She prevents herself in being attached,so she ended up hurting everyone who expresses affection to her. She was well-known for having a "cactus heart".

But it's not too long until fate made its way for Sandy to meet Carlo (Matteo Guidicelli). He romantically believed that Sandy was his soul mate from first sight.

Sandy became reluctant in letting Carlo in her life so she tried to push him away by trying to lead their story in a love triangle with Bene (Xian Lim).

Carlo, being optimistic, didn't give up. He showed her how he was really persistent in what he truly feel towards her.On the other hand Sandy tries harder to refrain from feeling the same way. She ended up hurting herself more by pushing love away.

As the story continued, the cactus heart eventually melted its thorns and Sandy finally took a leap of faith in confessing true love for her "THE ONE".

Ready to be back? Oh Yeah!

I stopped blogging for a while last December and this January as you might have noticed. I dunno. Maybe I needed a little break because everything around me was going on a whirlwind mess. As the transition to a new year approached me, I had to take a time to look back, think and reflect.

2011 has been a great year, I got seriously attached to the blogging industry, and for that I assure that even if there maybe some times that I cannot post a blog in regular basis; I will never stop blogging. I am happy meeting great people in our fast growing community.

Alright, much has been said but.. BACK TO WORK it is! :) I will be posting some back logs so.. pls. bear with me. :)

I MISSED THIS. MY OWN SPACE. MY OWN WORLD. MY BLOG.

Asiansation Invasion: Christian Bautista OUTBOUND

This song will definitely melt your heart as you hear it, plus will make you fall in love with the singer.

THE WAY YOU LOOKED AT ME was a ballad love song from our Asiansation, Christian Bautista. He was famed not only here in the Philippines but also across other Asian countries like Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand through this breakthrough song. He captured the heart of millions of Asian fans (mostly girls) because of his undeniable charm and incomparable singing style. He starred in the movie "A Special Symphony" which was his first international movie. Now, proving he is more than a balladeer, he has been a part of The Kitchen Musical. A musical TV series shown in almost 19 countries in Asia and Europe. He plays as Daniel Ray, a sous chef of the Avilon restaurant. See this clip for Christian's "FAITH" performance in TKM.

Christian has been freshly awarded: "Exemplary ASEAN Youth in the field of Entertainment and the Arts" by the National Youth Commission. This recognition only pointed out how he is very successful in his chosen field.

As a true OPM pride, Christian is now attempting to reach a wider scope of Asia with his newest international album entitled OUTBOUND under Universal Records. He has a new sound on this album, never heard from him before, which is a result of his collaborations in song writing, arrangement and vocals with different talented Asians like Tat Tong, One Way and Baby M.

Soyami Soya Chips: Junk Foods? Healthy SOYAMI is the answer!

Eating? We all love to eat right? But not all of us consider "healthy eating".

I had been working as call center representative for almost 2 years now. And I must admit that I gained too much weight compared before when I was still studying. I am eating here, there and everywhere specially when boredom strikes... eating is my way to get over it. And due to lack of time for physical activities, I am really having trouble in controlling my weight. More to it, I am afraid to be unhealthy as time flies.

I had been in love to junk foods, literally in love. I always bring chips to work. Of course we all know how unhealthy junk foods are. Not until I found out about AM SOYAMI SOYA CHIPS, which are made with real SOYA. As a matter of fact,SOYA itself is a true healthy source! These delicious chips are packed with high protein and calcium, with no MSG and 0% trans fat! AMazing eh?! Now, look how I love them!

Available in Original, White Cheddar and Pizza flavors (my personal favorite is white cheddar the blue one, yum!). I love eating Soyami now, with soya milk too! Haha! Now in watching movies, I have Soyami in hand instead of popcorns. At work, I have Soyami to share to my office mates and they love it too! I can eat chips now, without being worried, without the guilt...

Italian craving: Ristorante BIGOLI

Pasta? Pizza? Gelato? Let Ristorante BIGOLI satisfy your craving for ITALY.

I am honestly not a fan of Italian restaurants, but in addition to what I usually see in Eastwood City, Libis, Q.C. - here comes Ristorante Bigoli, which was introduced to me by a friend having one of the greatest Italian cuisine in the metro. So I figured that it is worth a shot to try it.

Let's talk about the place,

Here's a view from the top, for a mansion like vibe.

The place has a classy ambiance. And there is a photo booth for everyone!

Chinoy Foodtrip: MASUKI in BINONDO ♥

Craving for authentic chinese food experience? Of course! Manila's Chinatown: BINONDO is "THE PLACE".

As history curves its way to the present, Filipinos adopted the Chinese culture as they were a great part of our own culture's development. But one thing that we Filipinos LOVE is absolutely the Chinese cuisine.

On a recent team bonding with my co-workers, we had this weird adventure trip to Binondo for the greatest Chinese Food experience... after public transportation and long walks...you know what? WE SUCCEEDED!

After asking some Binondo peeps about directions to refrain from getting lost, we found MASUKI a Chinese Restaurant since 1930. Getting back to our history topic, this Mami house was the living legend of the famed Ma Mon Luk Chinese noodles.

As the menu was handed over to our group, I actually felt the hunger that I was ignoring the whole morning! Just in time to dive in to my Chinoy pick of food.

Since it was my first time in MASUKI, I actually want to try EVERYTHING, but of course, my tummy might burst... so I browsed the menu and ordered the one that seems beyond delicious, though I want to apologize, due to hunger, I don't even remember what were my exact orders! Or is it the effect of the food being too yummy that I forgot their names? Haha!

MUSIC: Araw Oras Tagpuan - Spongecola (album review)

Yael Yuzon, Erwin Armovit, Gosh Dilay and (now with) Tedmark Cruz collectively dubbed as SPONGECOLA has come a long way UP, far from being just your typical college band! After making their renowned and unwavering name in the local music industry by countless chart-topping songs for this generation like Jeepney, Bitiw,Tuliro, Puso and Di Na Mababawi, just to name a few; recently their TAMBAY EP achieved the DIAMOND record in sales! (Which is really hard to get nowadays with all these piracy and economy issues blocking our talented home grown musicians in earning that title.)

SC ain't stopping. Now they are on their 4th full-length album offering from UNIVERSAL RECORDS entitled ARAW ORAS TAGPUAN

(photo caption: my own copy of Araw Oras Tagpuan signed by Sponge Cola)

An album from one of the most well-known local band of this generation? Let's see what is my take on their new release. Here is the album's  MIGHTY-REVIEW:

TRACK-by-TRACK
- Tambay is a song that will definitely make your day. It's catchy tune will keep playing in your head on repeat. It is a good kick-off track for the album. Stargazer on the other hand has a direct detour to your heart. You will actually feel the "pain" that the song implies in a melancholic attack. Regal is my favorite track off from this record. It is more like a sweet serenade for me. Lyrically speaking, this song is nothing but brilliant. The melody is perfect and all the words used are well thought of. And did I already mentioned it's sweet? Listening to it will melt your heart away... ♥ It is now my current lullaby to sleep. Honestly. Well, watch this official music video for Regal:

PP UNDERGROUND RIVER: Let's make it possible up until 11.11.11

Dearest KABABAYANS,

Hear I am..making an honest petition to campaign for the Puerto Princesa Underground River (Palawan,PH) to make it on the list of the NEW 7 WONDERS OF NATURE.

Last July 28 PPUR was declared 1 of 28 elite finalist from over 441 participants. That's a big "congratulations" to all the supporters of course, that we have come this far, but THE FIGHT IS NOT YET OVER. We are in a head-to-head battle against other wonders of nature. All their mother countries are also exerting huge efforts in promotion of their own finalist. We, as FILIPINO CITIZENS, should also support our very own nominee in the aim for our NATURAL TREASURES to be known worldwide! PPUR is one great example of how blessed we are for this land that we call our own and it is now time to give back to nature by paying tribute to the famed WORLD'S LONGEST UNDERGROUND RIVER.

JOBS well done! (A tribute to Steve Jobs)

Steven Paul "Steve" Jobs
(February 24, 1955 – October 5, 2011)

The whole world was in shock when a news came out last October 5, 2011:

Jobs' family made a statement that he "died peacefully today".

Steve Jobs, the co-founder, chairman, and chief executive officer of APPLE INC., had changed the world through his fearless innovations and breakthrough products. A true treasure in the industry of technology, which Apple has been a homegrown name, Jobs has contributed in our lives in many ways. Every single Apple product we are capable to enjoy at the present is a product of labor from Jobs and all the people behind Apple Inc. He had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer since 2004 and started a fight against it with series of treatments and transplant surgeries. The fight, though has not been won, was still a great fight for him, his family and friends.

Steve Jobs, will surely be missed, as a foundation of the new generation technology and as an icon of innovation. A hero of technology, a great entrepreneur on his chosen field and a family man. Surely, Jobs, well done!

(in tribute of Mr. Jobs)
