Kailangan Ko’y Ikaw: A tale of love, family, dreams and dignity.

As we all know, ABS-CBN has been the home of top caliber teleseryes loved by the people for the longest time. Now, starting this January 21, Kapamilya network’s Primetime Bida will offer a tale of love and family, justice seeking, upholding dreams and a fight for honor and dignity in Kailangan Ko’y Ikaw. The newest TV series we will all be hooked for every night.

Kailangan Ko’y Ikaw held a special screening for celebrities and press of their pilot week last January 13 at Trinoma Cinema. And I was there to witness the unfolding of a new teleserye that will make a mark in TV history. In the direction of well-acclaimed Malu Sevilla and Joyce Bernal, KKI is one of the highly-anticipated drama series of early 2013. 

As I have watched the pilot week, I must say that I am highly impressed by KKI’s story line. It is a drama series, yes, but it is NOT a heavy, “unrealistic” drama… so far for what I’ve seen. It has just the right mix of everything. It was not too dramatic and not too light. It has the intensity required to confrontational scenes, it is light in funny comic scenes, it has the adventure thrill needed for action scenes and it is complete with tenderness and softness in dramatic heartbreaking scenes. The script has the right attack to the audience. Kudos to the writers, directors and to the staff, for me, just by watching the pilot week I can say that this is one of the most well-crafted teleserye I have seen so far. And I surely hope for its consistency on full airing, of course. Another positive thing for me is the fast-track record of the story, with what I have seen. It is not a slow-paced unraveling of events. A lot was revealed in just the first week and more will be uncovered as the story goes, it excites me more to watch out for it every night.

The characters of the story was a perfect fit, the whole team compliments each other. Leading the ensemble of great acts are Queen of All Media Ms. Kris Aquino as Roxanne, Box-Office Queen Anne Curtis as Ruth and the “Idol ng Masa” Robin Padilla as Bogs.

 Forgive me but I initially thought that the Kris-Robin-Anne triangle will not work for me, but hey… I am taking my words back. The trio was so effective.

Robin Padilla was fresh. He still holds a strong charisma on-screen.  Just when I thought he has no chemistry with Anne, then again I was wrong. I admit I personally got kilig with Bogs and Ruth’s tender scenes together. He is still the action star and the ever favorite leading man that everyone had loved!

The ever gorgeous Anne Curtis is one of the story’s conflicts. Surely adding to her remarkable projects is playing as Ruth in KKI. She was a perfect fit for a troubled daughter in this TV series. Even if Ruth’s character is a bitchy black sheep, as the story goes, viewers will understand and empathize on where she is coming from.

On the other hand, Ms. Kris Aquino for me is exceptional in portraying the loyal and loving daughter and sister, Roxanne. She is the purest character. For me, Roxanne is the heart of the serye. The caring, loving and tender attributes of her character made her the perfect neutralizer on the pilot week. Of course, her character has her own conflicts and struggles. The Robin-Kris tandem is very promising. It is for us to discover how Roxanne, Bogs and Ruth’s lives will get intertwined.

Joining the cast are Tirso Cruz III, Ian Veneracion, Smokey Manaloto, Gloria Sevilla, Karla Estrada, Laureen Uy, Miles Ocampo, Marco Gumabao, and Xyriel Manabat. Each and every one of the cast deserves a clap, but I want to give high praises and appreciation to THE GREAT Tirso Cruz III on his spectacular performance as Rodrigo.

Kailangan Ko’y Ikaw truly has a gripping story. Honestly, I am not a usual teleserye fanatic but, I must say, once it started airing, we all have to stay tuned on this TV series as I believe it will surely touch our hearts in every way possible.
